Smoked Cheesy Chard Chips
Did you know that you can pop leafy greens on the Treager and have a crunchy smoky snack in minutes? These cheesy chard chips are a excellent snack. I actually consider them a freebie because they are so healthy. Chard is nutritionally rich in vitamin K, accounting for approximately 300% of your daily value. Bonus… In 1 cup of chard there is only 35 calories.

Chard is typically seen in Mediterranean-style dishes, however today I am making smokey cheesy chard chips. These nutritionally dense chips are a fantastic substitution for chemical laden potato chips. And the best part is my kids love them! You can easily substitute the chard for some kale.
About nutritional yeast.
Nutritional yeast is a plant based protein packed with B vitamins. It also has a tangy cheesy flavor, that is excellent on veggies and sprinkled on popcorn
This recipe is so easy, its really not even a recipe.
Smoked Cheesy Chard Chips
One bunch chard or kale. Cleaned and dry
Olive oil or avocado oil
1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
Preheat Treager to 350 degrees. I don’t have a preference on the wood pellets. Typically I chose my pellets based on the meat that is cooking first.
In a small mixing bowl, combine spices, nutritional yeast and avocado oil. Whisk together until thoroughly mixed.
Using a pastry or marinade brush, brush the herbed oil over the chard or kale, making sure all the leaves are well coated.
Place the leaves on the grill for 10 minutes, flipping every 3-4 minutes. Leaves are done with crispy, but not burnt.
*Don’t have a Treager, no problem. Pop them in the oven! Lat chard flat on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Flipping 1/2 way through. ** Oven temps very, please watch very carefully. They burned quickly!
*Store in an open container for up to two days. Do not cover them. I leave ours in a large bowl on the counter and they’re usually gone by morning. 🙂
For a smoky alternative, pop these bad boys on the Treager, 350 for about 10 minutes. The flavor is amazing and of so crispy.
